Our popular Ronald McDonald House cookery project still has some spaces this coming Saturday, so if you are a dab hand in the kitchen, or if you’re just happy to chop onions and do the washing up, please come along and help us cook a meal for the families of very sick children staying in the nearby hospital.
I’m also writing to let you know about some exciting one off volunteering opportunities we have this month in the run up to Christmas.  In addition to our usual activities, which include numeracy and literacy workshops, IT classes, jobshop, and cookery projects, we also have 4 unique events:
  • This Tuesday evening, 8th December, animal welfare organisation RSPCA will be doing a little festive carol singing in Trafalgar Square and are looking for volunteers to come along and join in.  The carols will start at 8pm and finish at 9pm, but participants will need to be there at 7.45pm for instructions.  Bring your best singing voice and a touch of tinsel if you like.
  • Next Sunday, 11th December we will be helping KEEN London to host their annual children’s Christmas party in Tufnell Park.  KEEN is the only charity in London which offers one-to-one sports and recreational opportunities for children and young adults with special needs, and their siblings, at no cost to their families and caregivers.  The party is for all of the children who participate in the charity’s activities to socialise and have some fun.  We need volunteers to help set up the party on Saturday 10th December, from 1-3pm, and help put up decorations and wrap gifts.  On Sunday 11th December between 9.30am and 4.30pm we need volunteers to help run the party, helping serve food, doing face painting, and tidying up.  This will be a lovely festive party and a lot of fun!
  • On Wednesday 14th December we will be helping Eaves, a charity supporting women fleeing domestic abuse, trafficking, and violence, to sort clothes into a kind of shop where their service users can choose the items they need for their family this winter for free.  This is the first time we will be working with Eaves, and we are excited to be helping with a project that will be so important to these women.  The clothes sorting will take place between 10am and 1.30pm at their centre on Brixton Road, near Oval Station.
  • And finally, another festive opportunity on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th December.  Between 9am and 5pm, in two hour shifts, we will be helping Action For Kids raise funds at Sainsbury’s in Muswell Hill.  As the Christmas rush starts, volunteers will help pack bags to speed up the queues, and collection tins will be rattled to help raise funds for the charity.  Christmas costumes are welcome but not mandatory!  Action for Kids is a national charity working with children and young people with physical and learning disabilities and their parents and carers.  They help to transform young lives by removing the barriers to independence.  Each shift will last just 2 hours, so if you have a bit of spare time please do come along and help.
If you would like to find out more information or to sign up for any of these activities you can do so on our online calendar.
Kind regards,
